In response to a typical journos response to the Manchester United ‘media blackout’.
I am struggling to see how not talking to the media is disrespectful for Manchester United fans? No one wants to hear the same old typical response to the same old mundane questions week in and week out. And seen as you are not actually allowed to say anything remotely negative before both the media, the FA and the Premier League jump on you - then what is the point?
And perhaps accidentally, it was probably best no one spoke to the media. Because losing 3-1 to those lovely, well educated young men from down the road is hard enough to take anyway. But when the referee was as fantastic as he was today (no negative words here) - and when one of those lovely, well educated young men gives Nani a bit of a cut and all it results in is a yellow card, there was only really going to be one outcome in a post match interview.
They would criticise the home side. They would criticise the officials. And then they would be castrated by the media, the FA and the Premier League for firstly daring to say anything wrong about officials and secondly being sore losers.
No Manchester United fan cares about what any of those players have to say for themselves at the end of this game. No one wants to hear it. They would probably take some enjoyment from the hairdryer that would’ve followed the result - but not to some pointless interview with Sky. Manchester United fans want to see their team on the training ground early all this week and leave late all this week. Manchester United fans want to see their team send out a message to Arsenal and the rest of the Premier League on Saturday in the FA Cup. And most of all, Manchester United fans want to help them do that by cheering them on.
Perhaps this was actually more of a ‘us against the world’ type ploy that he has enjoyed using in the past to motivate his team and get them going again. And seen as we care more about the team winning than any of Sky’s pointless interviews - I’d suggest that you actually think your comments through before speaking on behalf of Manchester United fans, Jacqui.
The only entity being disrespected by this media blackout is Sky - and quite frankly, I’m okay with that! At least Manchester United can stand up to Murdoch.
On more of a side note - I’ve also never understood why everyone can be criticised except referees? They are professionals earning a lot of money. And more importantly, there is alot of money involved in football. Forget what effects you think criticism of the referee has at grassroots level - there are ways around that. At the end of the day, alot of people lose alot of money (including ordinary punters) on bad refereeing decisions. Why can they not be held accountable and criticised in the same way players and managers are? It’s nonsensical!
If Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United can be fined for not wanting to talk to the media after a game in which they have made mistake(s) - why can a referee ignore the media without justifying his decisions and mistakes?

Southampton council force pay cuts
…But it’s not as bad as it sounds.
Ofcourse cuts have been made, but with forced pay cuts they estimate they can keep a further 400 jobs. Why is council employees earning over £60,000 p/a taking a 5% pay cut to save 400 jobs a bad thing? Come on! Get a grip!
